About Stock Buddy

Stock Buddy is a free, ad-free website for tracking stocks: real-time quotes, charts up to 20 years, company financials, a synced watchlist with email price alerts, a portfolio tracker, and a monthly stock picking contest. It is a clean alternative to Google Finance and Yahoo Finance.

What it is

Stock Buddy (heystockbuddy.com) was built to bring back the clean, simple experience of the older Google Finance after Google redesigned it and removed portfolios. It has since grown into a full personal stock tracker while keeping the minimal design. There are no ads, no paywall, and no account is required just to browse.

What you can do

• Search any US-listed stock, ETF, or major OTC ADR by ticker or company name. Search covers about 18,000 symbols, ranks results by market cap, and understands brand names (searching "facebook" finds Meta).
• See real-time quotes: price, day change, day high/low, 52-week high/low, market cap, volume, P/E, EPS, dividend yield, and beta.
• Chart 1 day to 20 years: 1D, 5D, 1M, 6M, YTD, 1Y, 3Y, 5Y, 10Y, and Max, in percent terms. The headline gain or loss follows the range you pick, and you can click any point on the chart to measure the return from that date.
• Compare stocks side by side: overlay up to three other tickers, or an index ETF like SPY, on one chart to compare performance over time.
• Read financial statements: income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow for the last five fiscal years and recent quarters, in the company's reported currency or converted to USD.
• Follow the news for each company on its stock page, with links to the original articles.
• Keep a watchlist with price, change, market cap, dividend yield, and 52-week range. Sortable, synced across devices, and you can right-click any stock to open it in a new tab.
• Get free email price alerts: set a target price and an upper and/or lower alert (as a price or a percent) on any watchlist stock, and Stock Buddy emails you when it is hit. No app needed.
• Track your portfolio: create multiple named portfolios, enter shares and average cost, and see live value, today's move, total return, and allocation. Switch the whole display between USD and Canadian dollars.
• Share ideas: post an investing idea, comment, and like. You get an email when someone comments on or likes your idea.
• Play Callin It: pick a stock and call it up or down over 3, 6, or 12 months. One pick per length each month, and picks lock 30 minutes after you make them. Every month and length is its own contest with a public leaderboard, and the winning pick earns $5.
• Choose your home tab: star Watchlist, Portfolio, Ideas, or Callin It to make it the one that opens first.
• Track major markets from the homepage: US indices, Europe, Asia, currencies, crypto, and futures, with live values and mini charts, plus an indicator for whether the US market is open.
• Dark mode.

Key facts

• Price: Free. No subscription, no ads, no premium tier.
• Account: Optional. Browsing needs no account. Signing in (Google or email/password) saves your watchlist, alerts, and portfolios across devices and lets you post ideas and make picks.
• Coverage: US-listed stocks and ETFs (NYSE, Nasdaq, AMEX) plus major OTC-traded ADRs such as Nintendo and BYD; world indices, forex, crypto, and futures on the homepage. Stocks listed only on the TSX or other non-US exchanges are not supported yet.
• Currencies: Prices are in USD. Portfolio values can be shown in CAD. Financial statements can be shown in the reporting currency or USD.
• Data: Real market data via a third-party provider. Stock Buddy only ever shows real data, never fabricated or placeholder numbers. If data isn't available for a symbol, it says so.
